It is no secret that we heart our couples and often become friends long after the I do’s have been said and rings exchanged. In this case, I have known the bride, Rachel for over 2 whole decades. She is my sister’s best friend – so when she said she was getting married – we were over the moon thrilled to be the ones to capture all the chic awesomeness for her and Sam.

Their wedding could technically be classified as a destination wedding – since Sam & Rachel live in the States and chose to have their big day back in Rachel’s home city of Montreal. The prep took place at Rachel’s parents home in Upper Westmount and is essentially a photographer’s dream. The art, the light, the twirling staircase – oh my – it was all just too incredible. Prepping in a spot that has meaning to the couple is always the best. Rachel grew up in this house – so for her to come down the stairs in her wedding dress and fully bridalified to see Sam for the first look – well…yup it was a moment.

The wedding ceremony took place at Emanu-el Beth Sholom Synagogue and then everyone headed to Beatrice restaurant down the road (formerly Bice). The restaurant is marvellous on any given day but it was kicked up a bunch of notches for the reception and looked simply divine and oh so twinkly. Their guest wined and dined and danced their faces off. The speeches were lovely, thoughtful and funny – we were all laughing and crying – some of us behind the lens included.

Rachel & Sam – we adore you guys and truly love love loved times a million zillion capturing every moment for you both.

Jessica: Ahhh thanks so much Rachel - this is the loveliest and sweetest. We adore you & Sam and were so thrilled to be the ones to capture all the awesome.

Rachel: You guys the absolute best! We are nearing our 1 year anniversary and I still can't stop looking at these photos. The wedding went by so fast and I get to live the experience again and again through your lens. We could not be happier with how they turned out. If everyone had as much fun as they look like they are having in these photos, are wedding was truly a success! You captured the energy and joy of us and our guests perfectly all while making us feel totally at ease. We will need to renew our vows just so we can have you photograph it. Love you lots!!

As some of you may know – I grew up in Montreal. Oui, oui mes amies. Yes it is the land of hockey & poutine. But Montreal is also super chic and has such a rich heritage and incredible architecture. Most notably of course in Old Montreal – which acted as the backdrop for Maya & Ross’s wedding ceremony and portraits. Magnifique!

The wedding ceremony itself took place at the Notre Dame Basilica – an unbelievably stunning place for your I do’s. A gothic inspired church that was built in the 1600’s. It also happened to be the spot where world famous Montrealer Celine Dion said her I do’s in 1994. It was an amazing spot to shoot – no shortage of inspiration that’s for sure.

Following the ceremony we took Maya & Ross around Old Montreal for their photos – I think we could have kept shooting all day and night – so many fun lil nooks & crannies and alleyways and passages leading to more awesome at every turn. But alas they did need to make it back to join their guests for the big reception bash at Le Windsor.

And what a party it was! Incorporating Maya’s Lebanese & Ross’s Algerian backgrounds – the traditions and festivities were such fun – every one of their guests was dancing up a storm. They also had a bellydancer put on a spectacular show during the reception.

Montreal je t’aime!
